InfraGard Indiana is fortunate to have the leadership of the Sector Chief Program in the hands of a seasoned and well-known cyber expert.
Mr. O'Hara currently serves as one of several national Strategic Engagement Advisers (SEA) for the FBI. As part of his volunteer work, he serves as a member of, and Strategic Advisor to, the Indiana Executive Council on Cybersecurity (IECC); part of the Governor’s efforts at strengthening Hoosier cybersecurity. He has practiced Information Security for over 25 years specializing in Security, Audit, and Risk Management in: Healthcare, Financial Services, and Manufacturing. He has also taught and served as the Chairperson for Information Technology at Ivy Tech Fort Wayne, and developed courseware for Indiana Tech on Risk Management. He served as the Cyber Coach for the Ivy Tech Collegiate Cyber Defense Competitions (CCDC) for seven years and as state Director for two.
He is a frequent speaker on subjects related to “How to Speak to the Board, or Geekspeak for the C Suite” at local and national conferences such as “RSA”, “SecureWorld”, and “Indy Big Data”, and is a regular IT Security and Audit SME contributor to ITProTV. Mr. O’Hara has published articles in the Indiana Bankers Journal (IBJ); “Security and Audit, the Odd Couple”, and served as Technical Editor of several Security books such as Wiley’s (ISC)2 “CISSP Official Study Guide”, and (ISC)2 “SSCP Official Study Guide”. He is also co-author of Wiley’s “CISA: Certified Information Systems Auditor Study Guide, 4th Edition”, and Wiley’s(ISC)2 “CCSP: Cloud Security Official Study Guide.
Mr. O’Hara is a graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington and earned his MA from the University of North Dakota. He has served in numerous leadership positions with local and national InfoSec organizations such as President of Indiana chapter of ISACA, Secretary of the Indianapolis chapter of ISC2 , and as the InfraGard Indiana Members Alliance President. His awards include Fellow status by the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) in 2013 for leadership activities in Infosec, the 2017 ISC2 ISLA Community Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership in Infosec, and the 2017 InfraGard Indiana Members Alliance (part of FBI Private Sector Outreach) Diversity award for efforts at recruiting minorities and women. Mr. O’Hara is also a graduate of both the FBI Citizens' Academy and the FBI CISO Academy.
